The Associated Press reports that an Air Canada flight clipped wings with a Shuttle America plane while taxiing to the runway on Saturday, causing a brief traffic delay. Air Canada Flight 723 was bound for Toronto when it impacted a Shuttle America flight bound for Chicago operated on behalf of Delta.
LaGuardia Airport traffic was delayed at 7:20PM for about an hour. There was minimal damage to the aircraft, but both planes were returned to the gate to offload passengers. Passengers were placed on flights Friday night and Saturday morning and the planes were taken out of service for a full maintenance check as well as an investigation.
Delta’s flights to Chicago from LaGuardia operate out of the Marine Air Terminal, where they operate their shuttle flights to Washington and Boston, on the other side of the airport from the Central Terminal Air Canada flights fly out of. We look forward to more information about what point they came in contact with each other and why.
