United is considering reducing service once more at Miami International Airport. United was once the second-largest carrier there after American Airlines, the current dominant carrier, and even competed to Latin America, with flights as far south as Brazil and Argentina. At the height of service in 1993, they had 45 daily flights from Miami.
United canceled international service in 2004, and all service is now operated by its discount wing, Ted. Now it plans to convert four of its six daily flights from 156-seat Airbus 320s to 30 to 70 seat regional jets. United operates service to Washington-Dulles, Chicago-O’Hare, and Denver and ranks as the sixth-largest carrier at MIA, with 1.7 percent of traffic.
