  • The head of the Port Authority has stated that Stewart Airport in the Hudson Valley will not become New York’s fourth area airport even though the Port Authority will be running the airport. He stated that Stewart would never be the scale of the other airports, although it may eventually hit four million fliers a year…it is currently at just over 300,000. 11 Million of the 140 Million Port Authority Passengers live in the Hudson Valley. We will be interested to see the numbers at the end of 2007…after a year of Jetblue and Airtran service, as well as newly returned Delta.
  • United Airlines was fined nearly $400,000 for ignoring pollution requirements and failing to ensure properly functioning filtering equipment at its maintenance facility in San Francisco from September 2003 to the middle of 2005.
  • Today in the Sky reports that almost six months after the Wright Amendment compromise, Southwest has raised the number of trips in which a passenger doesn’t have to change planes to 51 from 21, with 131 daily departures out of Love Field, and passengers can fly to 58 out of 62 other destinations from Dallas.
  • Today in the Sky also reports that only 10 months after Delaware ceased to be the only state without commercial airline service, that service is in danger of cancellation. After a summer in which Delta Connection flights from Wilmington to Atlanta were 61% full, volume has dropped to less than half-full. Airport officials are hoping to boost traffic by playing up the airport’s convenience, and hope not only to boost the Delta service, but attract other carriers. It is certainly an option for those who want to avoid the delays of crowded Philadelphia International Airport.
