Holiday Travel Tips

By | December 21, 2007

The Christmas Season is here, as evidenced by the excess number of cars on the road and people at the airport leaving town. Our spinoff blog, the Infrequent Flier, had some tips during the last holiday travel season to make your holiday travel more pleasant.

Travel Tips: Preparing on the Day of Travel

But that was a while ago. Is there anything new we can recommend? Let’s see:

  • Mark Ashley over at Upgrade: Travel Better had a few useful tips we can incorporate to expand on our previous work.
    • Sign up for the alerts feature at Flightstats.com. Their updates are very detailed.
    • Carry the airline’s timetable or a list of alternate flights to your destination in the event you need to be rebooked or want to go standby on earlier service. Don’t forget alternate routings if you are connecting.
    • Know your rights, and keep copies of the important pages of the airline’s contract of carriage, terms of conditions of things like upgrades, redemption, etc in case you need ammunition in your fight for good service.
    • Pre-program airline phone numbers into your cell phone. You should never travel without the number of the airline on your person. Best to have the number at the ready
    • Mark advises you also program in 1-877-FLYERS-6(877-359-3776). It is the number for the Stranded Passenger’s Hotline of the Coalition for Airline Passengers’ Bill of Rights. If you are stuck on the tarmac for long periods, they want to know about it.
    • Check in online if possible, and as early as possible. Remember, you can check in online even if you have bags to check.

And remember, have a happy and healthy holiday and an easy travel experience. If you want to tell us about yours, try emailing us at guru@flightwisdom.com.
