We are usually apolitical here, but we’re impressed Obama actually has a transportation agenda. McCain, by comparison, is known for killing funding for Amtrak. We tried to find a policy on his website and failed. We’d love to see it though and analyze it similarly.
We found a good analysis of the Obama policy on Evan Sparks’s Aviation Policy Blog. Obama wants to create a National Infrastructure Reinvestment Bank to be in charge of investing in transportation infrastructure improvements. He wants to improve labor relations at the FAA and modernize its infrastructure, as well as change its leadership.
Sparks highlights Popular Mechanics and its review of the candidate policies here. We get to see a little of what McCain is up to in this area. For one, McCain has indicated he might favor a move to privatize Air Traffic Control, a practice not uncommon in the world. He had a prior record of supporting passenger rights, but the issues never came to legislation and have not been talked about lately.
We’re not a political blog, but we hope whomever ends up in the White House takes a stand on the country’s ailing transportation infrastructure.
