Facing competition from both Southwest and JetBlue entering the Baltimore–Boston route, Delta Air Lines is cancelling its seven daily regional flights on August 18th.
It is not surprising that Delta might want to remove its regional jets with all the capacity the competition is bringing in. Also, Delta has downscaled its Boston operation, and has a small operation in Baltimore, and they can redeploy the capacity elsewhere, or simply…well, not. CRJ-200 regional jets versus the luxury of the JetBlue E190 or the capacity of a Southwest 737, not to forget the connecting opportunities that Southwest will be offering means it simply is not worth it.
