- Last week’s most interesting news was Southwest Airlines choosing to enter the Philadelphia to Boston route. Southwest entered Boston over the summer and has been slowly expanding its presence there. Southwest will be offering five daily roundtrips beginning June 27th, and will be significantly lowering the price in the market. Dan Webb of Things in the Sky did an analysis of the market, showing US Airways fares dropping from over $500 down before Southwest to $59 after. However, Southwest is coming in with only five flights to US Airways offering of 16, almost hourly service, using E190s.
- United Airlines added routes in thirteen cities. Beginning June 9th, United will offer year round service from Denver to Minot, ND, Washington-Dulles to Colorado Springs and seasonal service
- From Chicago to Anchorage, Maui, Billings, Kalispell, Missuola, and Jackson Hole.
- From Denver to Ancorage and Traverse City
- From Los Angeles to Bozeman, Jackson Hole, and Aspen
- Saturday Only service between Los Angeles and Cancun and Mexico City
- From San Francisco to Anchorage and Bozeman
- From Washington-Dulles to Quebec
- Cape Air has gotten approval to operate from Lebanon/Hanover, NH to White Plains, NY. The airline currently operates six flights delay to Boston from Lebanon, and will be switching two of them to the White Plains service, where a van would transport passengers into New York City.
- Frontier Airlines will be pulling its last two flights out of San Jose’s Mineta Airport, ceasing its twice daily service to Denver on March 14th. Despite losses of 2.5 million passengers in the past two years, this is the first time they’ve lost a carrier entirely.
- American Airlines will be adding three new international routes to its presence at New York-JFK Airport. Service to San Jose, Costa Rica will begin April 6th and operate five times weekly. Service to Madrid will begin May 1st. Service to Manchester will begin May 13th.
- Westjet will begin seasonal service to Windsor, Ontario and Calgary on May 31st. The service will operate until October 30th.
- Air Europa announced new nonstop service from Miami to Madrid.
