The next time we fly, we’re going to be shaving.
Recently, Nick Bilton of the New York Times continued his reporting on the issue of in flight electronics, and how, while there may be reasons for the existing rules, they do not make any sense. If the electromagnetic energy from hundreds of people using electronics added up, then working in an office would be dangerous.
The FAA apparently does allow some electronics during takeoff and landing. Portable voice recorders, hearing aids, heart pacemakers, and electric shavers. Here is a press release from the FAA itself on the subject.
If a regulation has some factual basis, we can get behind it. But this one seems to be propped up with a lack of factual statements. If something is in doubt, do more tests, make a more informed rule.
So, show your rights the next time you fly. As the plane takes off, give yourself a nice shave. And start your voice recorder to record in the event the flight attendant take issue with your shaving.
Remember…it’s perfectly legal.
