Ben Murtzabaugh at Today in the Sky reported earlier today that a passenger named Mark Coshever was able to board a London to Amsterdam flight using his two-year old daughter’s passport for ID. Despite going through two passport checks at Luton Airport in London, he boarded Easyjet and was in Amsterdam before he noticed the mistake and notified immigration officials.
Dutch officials confirmed his identity and authorized him to stay in the country for 48 hours. Easyjet reports it has discliplined the staff at Luton. Considering the security level at UK Airports in the last month, this situation is particularly suprising.
Anyone who looked at the passport would not be able to mistake a two-year old named Alicia for a 29 year old named Mark, it is reported. Two Easyjet employees, one when he checked in and another upon boarding, by his statement, looked at the passport. An airline can be given a fine of two thousand pounds sterling for letting a passenger travel without valid identification.
We have not seen pictures of either Mr. Coshever or his daughter…but perhaps growing a beard might help in distinguishing between the two.
