JetBlue announced today the schedule for its Washington-National(DCA) service, now that it has secured slots at the airport. Service will begin on November 1st, with seven daily flights to Boston, and one each to Ft. Lauderdale and Orlando.
We find it interesting their press release refers to the Washington-Boston service as ‘shuttle’ service. JetBlue entered the New York and Boston to Washington Dulles market and had an instant downward trend on fares. Shuttle service, as we’ve mentioned before, has certain characteristics to it. How will this service compete with Delta and US Airways, especially for business travelers?
jetBlue will continue to operate five daily nonstops from BWI to Boston and six from Dulles, for a total of eighteen, which will make them the largest carrier for flights between the two metro areas.
By choosing their Boston hub, they can facilitate connections to their existing transcontinental service. they can do the same from the two Florida focus cities they will fly to.
