Today, Boeing unveiled a life-size display of the interior for the new 747-8 Intercontinental. The 747 has transported passengers for decades. The 747-8 is stretched 18.3 feet from the 747-400 to provide 467 seats in a typical three-class configuration.
The new interior configuration offers updates from the designs of later passenger aircraft, like the 787 Dreamliner and the 777. It includes the new, curved, upswept architecture giving passengers a greater feeling of space and comfort while adding more room for personal belongings. It is lit by new lighting technology that provides smooth lighting transitions to offer a more restful environment, along with wider windows than the previous 747s.
We have to agree with Boeing’s investment in interiors. Many airlines have brought older planes down to the rivets and refurbished their interiors with new seats, overhead bins, side panels, and even new in flight entertainment. Be it a refurbishment or a new interior design…when you have to look at the interior of a plane for hours on end…it should be bright, airy, and clean.
That is why In-Flight Entertainment systems can be important. The last thing most passengers want to be reminded of is that they are stuck on a plane for however many hours. Manufacturers always offer options airlines can order for their planes, should they wish to include them, such as bars, lounges, and even shower facilities.
