The Cranky Flier reminded us that on March 4th, US Airways will standardize its reservations system by unifying the old US Airways reservations system, which runs SABRE, and the America West reservations system, which runs SHARES on the SHARES system, which will allow the airline for the first time to be unified in its computer systems.
Some passengers traveling in the early hours of the morning may end up being checked in manually, and passengers might want to check in early. The system will be down on March 4th, from 2AM to 4AM Eastern Time. There will be 33 flights operating during that time.
In the end, a unified reservation system will mean no more separate lines to check in for flights, and the last big obstacle in unifying the two airlines. The new US Airways can then focus on new features and functionality.
