The new control tower that has been rising up over New York’s LaGuardia Airport will begin operations midnight Sunday morning. The old tower will be turned off and decomissioned.
The older tower, which has been in use for forty-six years, has been repeatedly cited as inadequate and in poor condition. It has been described as antiquated and it apparently leaks.
The new tower hopefully will improve operations at the airport. We’re not certain if the increased efficiencies will have any significant effect on the over 20 million passengers who pass through the airport annually, but it will certainly make things run more smoothly.
