  • Midwest Airlines continued its rollout of 50-seater regional jets operated by Skywest Airlines as Midwest Connect with the inauguration of service onboard these jets from Milwaukee to Columbus, OH and on select flights between Milwaukee and Minneapolis/St. Paul and Philadelphia.
  • Midwest’s new route between Kansas City and Seattle/Tacoma launched today. The flights operate as Midwest Signature service onboard Boeing 717 aircraft.
  • Bishop International Airport in Flint, Michigan has announced a 68% increase in Midwest Connect capacity to Milwaukee due to the addition of jets replacing turboprop aircraft and new Saturday service.
  • Air Canada has returned to seasonal service between St John’s, Newfoundland and London until the end of October. Service operates three times weekly on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday in April, increasing to five times a week June, and to daily service from July through the end of September. The service will be operated using Airbus 319 aircraft with 120-seats in a two cabin configuration.
  • Expressjet has inaugurated service under its own banner and brand name. Expressjet is known for flying under Continental colors. For more details, our post is available here.
  • United has reached a $400 million deal to carry domestic mail for the U.S. Post Office. The contract, in addition to its deal to carry international mail, extends through Sept. 30th, 2011. United has carried mail for over 80 years.
  • Today in the Sky reports Northwest Airline’s new subsidiary and longtime Airlink partner Mesaba will be flying its first new 76-seat Canadair Regional Jet this June, with another dozen arriving this year, and with three dozen available by the end of 2008. These CRJs will have two class seating and will replace much older Avro aircraft.
  • Continental Airlines announced the first ever service between Cleveland and Quebec, operating seasonally from June 9th through October 28th, It will be operated by a 50-seat regional jet.
