- Southwest has announced its schedule for the return of service at San Francisco International Airport. It will begin service August 26th, with 18 nonstop daily departures. Service will begin with three daily flights to Chicago Midway, eight to San Diego, and seven to Las Vegas. Through these flights, it will offer connecting or direct service to 46 other destinations.
- A man was arrested Wednesday after he began swearing and harassing other passengers three hours into a Northwest flight from Detroit to Nagoya, Japan. When asked to return to his seat, he lunged at a flight attendant. He was subdued, and the plane was diverted to Anchorage, where he was arrested.
- The six Muslim Imams removed from a plane in Minneapolis last fall are not only suing the airline, but threatening to sue the passengers who complained. Some fear this could discourage travellers from reporting suspicious behavior in the future. Some lawyers, alarmed by this, are offering to defend the passengers free of charge.
- USA Today reported last week that US Airways was fairly ‘tardy’ in March. It ran only 56% of flights on time, compared to 73%, the industry average. The Shuttle from Washington to New York was late 100% of the time. Two flights…from Boston to Philadelphia and Charlotte to Buffalo were late 90% of the time. Problems for US Airways included their reservations system integration, snowstorms in the East, and other operational issues.
