In a press release earlier today, USAirways has announced a reduction in fares from Huntsville, Alabama.
USAirways has lowered its fares in various markets and eliminated Saturday night stayover and roundtrip requirements in various markets as part of its attempt to transition to a Low Cost Carrier(LCC) model. LCCs are categorized, among other things, by simplified restrictions on fares.
We are curious why USAirways would issue a press release specifically addressing their work on changing Huntsville fares. As we understand it, Hunstville is not a mainline airport for them, with 5 flights a day to Charlotte and 4 to Washington-National, operated with Canadair Regional Jets. It seems odd to single out their reductions there as opposed including it with some larger announcement of fare reductions.
Despite this oddness, we are sure the people of Huntsville are appreciative of the price improvement and hope that this announcement is in preparation for a increase in their service to that airport.
