Catching Up – Service Roundup

Things have been incredibly busy here at ‘Blog Central’. Fortunately, the holiday season is upon us, hopefully bringing lots of time for us to catch up on all the airline news thats fit to blog. So here we are in no particular order(although newest ones will be first).

  • Jetblue is reminding people of its 144 daily flights to Florida, as many as two dozen to seven of its most popular cities. This winter, Jetblue will or already has inaugurated service from:
    • Ft. Lauderdale to:
      • Buffalo
      • Charlotte
      • Ponce, Puerto Rico
      • Syracuse
      • Raleigh-Durham
      • Richmond
    • Orlando to:
      • Buffalo
      • Portland, Maine
      • Rochester
    • Ft. Myers to:
      • Buffalo
      • White Plains
  • Speaking of Jetblue, Business Plus has announced it will publish David Neeleman, founder, chairman, and former CEO of Jetblue. The book, titled “Don’t Tell Me It Can’t Be Done”, will discuss not only his life up until now, but his next venture to help break America’s dependence on foreign oil. We’ll have to preorder on Amazon. Publication is scheduled for January 2009.
  • They also have this great table of their frequencies on tropical service this winter, including new service to St. Maarten and Puerto Plata
  • Delta inaugurated daily nonstop service yesterday between Atlanta and Lagos, Nigeria. It will also add service to Lagos from JFK next June.
  • Air Canada Jazz inaugurated service on Saturday between Yellowknife, the diamond capital of North America, and Vancouver, B.C.
  • Air China will inaugurate service from Beijing to Pyongyang, the capital of North Korea on January 2nd, and operate three times per week with Boeing 737 aircraft.
  • Airtran will be adding daily service effective February 14th between Newport News/Williamsburg, VA and Tampa.
  • US Airways began selling tickets on its first ever Heathrow service, out of its Philadelphia hub on the 1st. Service will be on their “flagship international aircraft”, the Airbus 330.
  • American Eagle will add a nonstop flight from its Miami hub to Florida’s capital, Tallahassee on March 2nd. Service will be twice daily, operated by 44-seat Embraer 140 regional jets. American has been building up domestic service out of its Miami hub of late, possibly due to the buildup at Ft. Lauderdale.
