BBC News reported Sunday evening that Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary will announce plans for his budget carrier to the United States on Monday, with fares to start at 10 Euro in Economy. A luxury business class will be offered.
O’Leary is expected to announce plans to buy 50 extra planes as part of plans to beat the economic situation by undercutting rivals. The flights could begin by the end of next year, but could be available for booking earlier. They are likely to go from London Stansted Airport and Dublin to New York, Florida, San Francisco, and Boston…all destinations served by Ryanair competitor out of Dublin, Aer Lingus, and by British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, and American out of alternate London gateways.
Ryanair, well known for its cut-rate policies, will bring quality on the Atlantic routes down. Already U.S. carriers are cutting service domestically, imposing fees, and trimming amenities. With this sort of competition, a similar downturn will occur on routes to Europe. United Airlines has already failed to eliminate meals on many international flights, despite efforts to do so.
