- The Dulles Rail Link may start construction any day now.. An agreement has been signed to commit $900 million in federal funds to the $5.2 billion Silver Line, which will run from in its first phase from the East Falls Chuch station through Tysons Corner to Reston. Phase two will continue to Dulles and Loudon County. The first phase will be completed by 2013, with phase two to Dulles in 2015.
- New Branson Airport, scheduled to open in two months, is supposed to announce a second carrier for the airport today. AirTran is the only carrier to so far commit to the new airport.
- JetBlue will inaugurate year-round service from Boston to Santo Domingo, in the Dominican Republic. Service will begin June 19th, three days a week(Friday, Saturday, and Sunday), with expansion to daily service over the peak winter season. The service will be operated using JetBlue’s Airbus 320 aircraft.
- United announced new nonstop daily service from Chicago O’Hare to Bismarck, ND and Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Beginning June 4, service to Saskatoon will operate with a 66-seat CR7, the Bismarck flight will be operated by a 50-seat CRJ aircraft.
- Southwest Airlines inaugurated its service to Minneapolis/St. Paul, with service to Chicago Midway.
- Delta Air Lines announced new service between Atlanta and Brasilia, the capital of Brazil beginning December 17th, 2009, three days weekly.
- AirTran launched nonstop service on Saturday from Baltimore/Washington International Airport to Cancun, Mexico. The service will operate on Saturday and Sunday.
- They also began service from Columbus, OH to Ft. Lauderdale, FL on Thursday.
- Alaska Airlines will serve as the official airline sponsor of the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, the 31st year the airline has supported the race. The airline will again present the Leonhard Seppala Humanitarian Award, which recognizes one musher for providing exemplary dog care and is considered the highest honor a competitor can receive.
- AirTran has no plans to pull out of Charleston, S.C., despite rumors. Not only are they not leaving, they will add two additional flights to Atlanta during the busy summer schedule.
