Leslie Nielsen, known to aviation enthusiasts as Dr. Rumack from the classic aviation spoof, Airplane, according to reports, has died at the age of 84. Airplane launched a second career for Nielsen as a comedic actor, delivering comedic lines with a deadpan expression.
This evening, Flight Wisdom went out to the Airplane! 30th Anniversary Screening at the Walter Reade Theater at Lincoln Center in New York City. As long time fans of this movie, it was exciting to see it on the big screen, and listen to an audience full of people laugh at the movie, something even the writers said they hadn’t had a chance to do in years.
In honor of Peter Graves, who unfortunately passed away Sunday evening at the age of 83, we present a tribute to him in the form of the movie Airplane!, in which he starred as Captain Clarence Oveur.
We here at Flight Wisdom have decided to schedule a group watching of Airplane. So, everyone break out your copy of Airplane. We’ll be doing this at 8PM Eastern Time the evening of March 15, 2010 and again at 12AM Eastern.
